Getting Ready for Rocky
Rocky Horror season is coming and where do we get/make costumes? Anyone know a good seamstress?? As we get closer to Rocky season, I’ll be posting more and as always, feel free to post and volunteer your services if you’re a lover of leather, lace and of course, fishnets.
I remember taking far too long on my Columbia shorts because I insisted on them being authentic (let’s face it, her get-up is strangely alluring when done right, otherwise she can easily read as clown-gone-wrong while we are in the business of feeling sexy…) and with my meticulous Virgo tendencies, the overworked (when-are-they-not) costume designer had no problem with that but I lost my September and October nights to sewing.
So, take my advice, take that step to the left and start now!
For a little piece of mind: The whole point of Rocky is that we are reeling in a whole motley lot of misfits together in an intimately immersive setting; and if you found yourself here at the Actor’s Almanac site, then you’re officially one of ’em, congratulations — it always gets better! Authenticity is sexy.
That said, take the look and the vibe, then tweak it your way, or the cast’s way if directing… Make it your own. It’s the only way to put on a fabulous show (even if “just” a participant, oh you… ;).
“Don’t dream it, BE IT!”
